State of the Andrew
First, my run yesterday clocked in at 24:04, which means two things. One, is that last week was not merely a fluke, and two is that the goal is actually achievable on a timescale I can make. Good.
Oh, HOW do I love the fact that today's meeting will be a return to arguments long past? I think I am currently breaking out in hives at the idea that I'm going to have to fight the war over the background estimates again. The problem is, since we're at the level of setting limits on the parameters NOW, the stakes are higher. The irresistable temptation for some to tinker with things just so that the results will look better is going to drive this. This is dangerous ground, changes to the background estimates, and the errors thereof go DIRECTLY into limit calculation.
Let's face facts folks. The world is full of some extremely bad people who will indeed stop at nothing to end up on top. For my part, I want to be honest. I want an answer that I can understand, NOT in fact an answer that will give the nicest looking result. I want to be right, and to have done things the right way, even if it means we don't get the 'best' answer.
